What is Whitelist?

Whitelist as a term has various meanings. In the blockchain and cryptocurrency space, a whitelist is a term associated with Initial Coin Offering (ICO) events, or withdrawal addresses for exchanges.

With regards to an ICO event, a whitelist is a list of registered and approved participants that are given exclusive access to contribute to an ICO or a pre-sale. A form is usually distributed to limited individuals to collect a list of emails of potential investors for an ICO,

Some cryptocurrency projects may offer a whitelisting phase for investors that are interested in taking part in the public sale of their tokens. Such Crypto project owners make use of the whitelisting process to enable them to verify potential token buyers and ensure they are compliant with the terms of the token sale.

For many ICOs that are done on Ethereum, the smart contract that governs distribution of the coins will only allow a ‘whitelisted’ person to participate and be allowed to receive tokens.

Whitelisting is similar to pre-registering for a product launch (think about signing up for the new iPhone or a sneaker launch) where potential buyers can indicate their interest in a company’s new product. When new projects are launched, verified whitelisted users will be allowed to take part in the initial sale of the token. Other investors  will still be able to buy such coin later once the official sale begins, but they may buy it at a higher price.

In regards to withdrawal addresses, a whitelist refers to a list of cryptocurrency addresses that users consider credible to transact with. In that case, they would only be able to withdraw funds from their exchange account to the addresses that are already whitelisted. Only addresses that appear on such lists can withdraw funds from exchange accounts.

How to Whitelist an Email in Gmail

There 2 common ways to whitelist emails in Gmail.

  • Add a sender to contacts.

If you’ve already received an email from the person, they will be automatically added to contacts unless you disable this feature. If you want to whitelist a new contract, select contacts from the options on the left side of the Gmail Inbox. Then select create contact on the top menu. Enter the email address in the primary email box and select Save.

If an important email is in the spam folder, you can mark it “Not Spam” to whitelist it.

  • Send relevant emails to your primary inbox tab.

Another way is to drag the message to your primary inbox. Drag-and-drop the email message from your desired sender from the promotions tab to the “Primary” tab. Once done, a message alert will appear with, “This conversation has been moved to Primary. Do this for all future messages from [email protected]?” Select “Yes:”
