What is Dorian Nakamoto?
Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto is a Japanese-American systems engineer who became famous when a Newsweek article suggested he was the creator of Bitcoin.
On the 6th of March 2014, a Newsweek journalist called Leah McGrath published an article claiming that Dorian Nakamoto was the creator of Bitcoin.
With a background in systems engineering and a degree in physics obtained from the Cal Pol University of Pomona, Dorian boasts an impressive technical background. He has worked for various financial agencies and technical firms, including Citibank and even some classified defense projects.
According to Leah McGrath, when questioning Dorian about his work with Bitcoin, Dorian allegedly responded somewhat vaguely, stating “I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it.” Dorian supposedly went further to explain “It’s been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now.’’ For many, this was a bombshell moment, amounting to a tacit admittance of being, at least in part behind the creation of Bitcoin.
Interestingly, Nakomoto lived only two miles away from Hal Finney, another Satoshi Nakomoto candidate and participant in the first-ever Bitcoin transaction.
Legal Action
Nakamoto has claimed that he believed the question referred to something to do with his work with CitiBank or perhaps his military contracts. He stated that he had no idea he was being asked about Bitcoin and had never even heard of cryptocurrency before.
Later in the day of the interview, an online account controlled by Satoshi Nakomoto reactivated after a 5-year dormant period, simply stating ‘I am not Dorian Nakamoto.’
Dorian has categorically denied all charges and has even claimed that he has sought legal advice to sue Newsweek for damages, claiming that the accusations have damaged his employability. According to Newsweek, they have yet to receive any correspondence from Dorian or his legal team, and as such have not retracted the claim.
